The Eyjafjallajökull Art Project

We recognise the second strike of Iceland in less than 2 years as inspiration for current art.
(The first strike was related to the financial meltdown, duh! It's a shame that this isn't obvious to anyone...)

Create art about the real cause of your dilemma whilst waiting for your flight! We believe that's making the best of the current situation.

Music

"AY-yah-fyah-lah-YOH-kuul."

By Ireland's Corrigan Brothers (the band who had the international hit "There's no one as Irish as Barack Obama")

Ohh watching the weather get windy

Blowing the ash down towards me

Planes on the ground are not going

We can't go tooing and fro-ing

A friend of a friend he got stuck there

An airport the far side of no where

Credit card maxed out and NO CASH

VOLCANO STILL PUMPING OUT BIG ASH

La-ah-ah, lalala la la la

Ah-ah-ah, lalala la la la

"AY-yah-fyah-lah-YOH-kuul."

"AY-yah-fyah-lah-YOH-kuul."

ANOTHER friend he took a bus trip

5 days to drive across Europe

He got to the ferry port Monday

The ferry had sailed out on Sunday

A friend of a friends stuck in Greece is

The economy's falling to pieces

He needs to get out of Athens

Before something the eventual happens

La-ah-ah, lalala la la la

Ah-ah-ah, lalala la la la

"AY-yah-fyah-lah-YOH-kuul."

"AY-yah-fyah-lah-YOH-kuul."

Ohh watching the weather get windy

Blowing the ash down towards me

Planes on the ground are not going

We can't go too-ing and fro-ing

La-ah-ah, lalala la la la

Ah-ah-ah, lalala la la la

"AY-yah-fyah-lah-YOH-kuul."

"AY-yah-fyah-lah-YOH-kuul."

And if there's anyone left out there

Who needs to get back in the air

"AY-yah-fyah-lah-YOH-kuul."

"AY-yah-fyah-lah-YOH-kuul."

Thanks to "The Corrigans" for this, MMX-V-XIII

Is it just us?

Is it just us that think there must be a relation between the volcanic ash and the nice weather throughout Europe? Is it washing the rain away? MMX-IV-XIX

Use of the terms "ash cloud", "ash" or "volcanic ash"

We also reason that the popular use of "ash", "ash cloud" or "volcanic ash" and their translations into other languages is related to the lack of people being able to speak "Eyjafjallajökull". MMX-IV-XIX

What's behind the flight bans?

There seems to be a sublime relationship between the catastrophic Polish government air accident and the precautious action of the European governments to issue the current flight bans. MMX-IV-XIX

More than 5000 unique visitors

We achieved more than 5000 unique visitors looking at our gallery within the first 3 days after the launch and the response is increasing! This is great news and another prove that The Eyjafjallajökull Art Project is a big success. MMX-IV-XIX

Is Britain to blame for the flight chaos?

According to this article of German newspaper DER SPIEGEL, German airlines question the current ban, because all bans across Europe seem to be based on data estimated by just one source and computer simulation of the Vulcanic Ash Advisory Centre in London. Traditionally there is always a bit of a suspicion involved when it is about British estimations, but we think the German airline questioning can't be dismissed easily. Do you remember when Britain closed all airports because of 1 or 2 inches of snow? MMX-IV-XVIII

Did you know?

Eyjafjallajökull is 1,666 metres in height and it looks like this from above:

Thanks to Bjartur for the following clarification:

FYI the image from the BBC seems to be from the Fimmvörðuháls, the eruption which preceded the one on the Eyjafjallajökull -- according to my m0m, who whatched the Fimmvörðuháls eruption live for hours. Eyjafjallajökull spits ash (@Brits: oh, you ment cash?) exclusively (and boils ice). --Bjartur
